Production company research

3. New line cinema:
Past films: A nightmare on Elm Street, pride and glory, snakes on a plane, final destination, the notebook, and blade: trinity, and the Texas chainsaw massacre.
Their link to thriller and horror genre: New line cinema has produced a wide range and genre of films and is one of Hollywood’s major production companies. In 1976, the y produced there first action thriller “stunts” a film purely about murders, this film performed well commercially on the international market and on television which made it a success. New line cinema has also produced various other horror films such as “alone in the dark”. In 1984, they then went onto produce one of their biggest successes which was “nightmare on Elm Street” American slasher film which had a huge impact on the horror and thriller films by influence and various forms of imitation. They we deemed “the house that Freddie built”
Reason why you might consider using this productions company: New line cinema is a very successful and famous production company which has produced some of the most famous horror films and also thrillers. I think that it would be appropriate to choose “New line cinema” because they are also known for producing a wide range of genres and have also co-produced and collaborated with other major production companies such as paramount pictures.
Reasons why you might not use this production company: However in the past some of new line films have had to be low-budget because of a huge financial slump.
2. Paramount pictures
Halloween, the kite runner, blades if glory, dream girls, transformers, killing bono, flashdance and disturbia.
Their link to thriller/horror genre:  Although paramount main focus isn’t genres such are thrillers and do produce nickelodeon and DreamWorks films  it is consistently ranked as one of the top-grossing movie producers. They have produced horrors and thrillers such as Friday the 13th.
Why we may not use them: Although they have produced a large number of film paramount have a history of merely distributing films which has meant that these films have quickly had to move production companies, they are known to do this if the films begins to fail or if they lose interest in the film altogether.
Why we may use them: Although a paramount picture has not produced a large amount of thrillers it is the leading youth brand and also consists MTV films. The main audience of MTV films is teenagers from around 15+, this shows us that paramount have good experience in marketing to their target audience which in my case is 15. Paramount films are also distubuted around the world with offices in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain and Australia.

3. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer
Their link to thriller/horror genre: One of the films which metro-Goldwyn-Mayer did produce was “Hannibal” which was a popular psychological thriller.
Why we may use them: We may choose to use this production company because following the end of the silent film era during world war II, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer was the dominant production company in Hollywood.
Why we may not use them: November 3, 2010 this production company had to file for bankruptcy, this would be worrying when deciding whether or not to choose this production company because this would raise issues about whether they would have the money to distribute the film and if this could have a potential impact on the sales and success of them film.
Past films: The wizard of Oz, Hannibal, Poltergeist
